Lacrosse athletes from across the province will descend upon Trent University's Peterborough campus this weekend as Trent hosts the 2018 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women's Lacrosse Championship tournament for the first time.

Trent University is honoured to host the 2018 OUA Women?s Lacrosse Championships. As part of an athlete?s sport experience, provincial competition is a crucial component to the overall sport pathway for an athlete to excel in their high performance development, explains Deborah Bright-Brundle, director of Athletics at Trent University. In keeping with the OUA's mission and supporting values we understand the importance of hosting technically sound games and we welcome the opportunity to showcase Peterborough and the Kawarthas.

Running Friday, October 19 through Sunday, October 21, the OUA championship brings together teams from across the province to complete for the Patterson Cup. In their first game of the championship, the Trent Excalibur women?s lacrosse team, OUA champions in 2016/17, take on the Guelph Gryphons on Friday at 4:15 p.m. at the Justin Chiu Stadium.

"We are thrilled to be contending for a gold medal in front of our hometown crowd," said Tori Wasson, women's Excalibur lacrosse coach. "We have many of our third and fourth players that know what it takes to win a championship and are ready to lead the team to victory this coming weekend. We are well prepared for the competition and can't wait to hear the hometown cheers when we score our first goal of the championship."

The championship will feature the best women's lacrosse athletes at the university level across the province. The first of fifteen games will start at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
