Excalibur Rugby Season Preview: Strong off season and exhibition play has Excalibur women's and men's excited for promising OUA season

The 2021 OUA rugby season is upon us and the Trent Excalibur women's and men's rugby teams are ready to hit the field again.

The Excalibur men's team will get the weekend's action started, as they visit the McMaster Marauders on Friday, September 24.  After a strong offseason and training camp, the men's team is back together again and ready to show the progress they've made since their last game together.

With a strong bond within the team, lock Jordan Persaud sees that competition within the team being an asset to come together as a stronger team.

"Seeing where everyone is at, having that healthy competition to drive each other to go forward and be better student-athletes and young men," said Persaud. "We have a short season to prove ourselves but we're going to earn it, we've been working hard and we're ready to give it whatever it takes."

On the women's side, coming off a dominant 25-5 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues in their exhibition season, the Excalibur women's rugby team look to continue their strong play and momentum into the regular season. With the energy and talent both offensively and defensively, their season kicks off as they visit the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, September 25.

With the shortened season, the third-year scrumhalf Amanda MacCarthy says the team is ready to give it their all each game.

"There's only four league games this year so we need to be firing on all cylinders," said MacCarthy. "Two years is a long time not to be playing rugby but we have some great new players coming in and we've been training hard. We want it now more than ever."
