The men’s lacrosse played their first game on Saturday, with newly appointed head coach Mark Farthing at the helm. In the memorial game to recognize the recent passing of lacrosse alumnus Brett Snell, Excalibur took on the Bishop’s Gaiters. Trent got a promising start with 2 goals off the bat, and held a steady lead to 9-5 by halftime. The team continued through the second half adding 4 more goals to their cushy win, ending the game at 13-6. With notable performances from across the roster, Cole McWilliams and Cam Garlin stood out as top scorers, claiming three each. On Sunday, the men dominated Nipissing, with a halftime score of 10-4. Among the several scorers was Jeff Fernandes, who made 6 assists on top of his own 2 goals.
The women’s lacrosse also played this weekend in Toronto, facing off with Queen’s and the University of Toronto. The women fought admirably against the undefeated Gaels, just falling short 8-10. Meanwhile it was an even tighter game against the Varsity Blues, with a back and forth nail-biter. By halftime Trent was up 6-5, and battled it out to a 10-10 stalemate.
The women’s soccer team welcomed Ryerson this Saturday for their second match up of the season. They last played the Rams in Toronto for their opening weekend and tied 1-1. This time around, the women were equally matched again, with no goals on either side by halftime. At the start of the second, Excalibur beat the keeper after several close shots and finally a goal from Abbey Pantusa, assisted by Emma Twohey. The women fought through the afternoon heat and fended off the Ram’s retaliation, keeping the score 1-0 by the final whistle. On Sunday, the women hosted the University of Toronto and came from behind to clench a 1-1 draw by halftime, which held through the second half to the final score.
