Ontario University Athletics announce plan to return to sport

Trent Athletics is excited and looks forward to the upcoming 2021-22 varsity season following the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announcement for a safe return to sport this fall season.

"Our Excalibur student-athletes and coaches demonstrated great resilience and perseverance throughout this last year," said Deborah Bright-Brundle, director of  Athletics and Recreation at Trent. "It is without a doubt that I believe our Excalibur varsity student-athletes are prepared and ready to represent the Excalibur team with great success in the OUA this fall."

With our safe return-to-train protocols in place last season, the Excalibur varsity teams (lacrosse, rowing, rugby, soccer, volleyball, curling) and competitive clubs (fencing, cross country) used the 2020-21 season as a developmental year.

"Return-to-train protocols allowed us to continue to build on our previous award-winning season and work toward a gold medal in 2021," says Excalibur women's lacrosse team head coach Tori Wasson. "The skills and resiliency our players, both former and returning, built, as part of these return-to-train session, are essential to our future team success."

To ensure the health and safety of our student-athletes and staff, as well as the Trent and broader communities, Trent Athletics will continue to monitor and follow the guidance of the OUA, the government of Ontario's three-step reopening plan, public health authorities and the University's Trent Forward Plan in the coming months as we prepare for the safe return to sport and competition this fall. Updates will be posted to the Trent Athletics website.
