Men’s Lacrosse

The Excalibur Men’s Lacrosse team started the weekend off on the road against the Queen’s Gaels Friday night for their last away game of the season. The men started off strong, up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Gaels then responded, tying the game up 3-3 at halftime. They continued to battle but entered the fourth quarter down 6-4. Fletched Backshell-Jones scored first for the Excalibur, but Queen’s managed to score another to put themselves up by two again. In the last two minutes of play, Cole Hanrahan scored two goals to send the game into overtime, for his third and fourth goals of the game. The two teams battled in overtime, but Queens unfortunately came out victorious, scoring the game-winning goal with only two seconds remaining in the first overtime.

In their second matchup of the weekend, the Excalibur Men played the McGill Redbirds, hoping to remain above them in the standings. In the first half, the men were losing, with a score of 4-2 at halftime. In the second half, they bounced back, with Adam Hawrelak scoring a double hat-trick and putting the Excalibur back in front. The final score was 12-7 Trent, which put the men in second place in their division and 8-2 on the season. They remain undefeated at home as they get set to host the Baggataway cup in two weeks.

 

Women’s Lacrosse

The Women’s Lacrosse team played three games this weekend, their first in London against the Western Mustangs. The women put up a great effort, as they were up 6-5 at halftime and Grace Shaughnessy scored a hat-trick in the third quarter. They played well, but unfortunately fell short and lost 12-7 in the second half.

In their home opener this weekend, they played the Brock Badgers and came out dominating. Scoring seven goals in the first quarter, and ten goals in the first half, the women came out swinging. The final score was 17-0 Trent, with multiple hat-tricks scored by Natalie Fournier, Grace Shaughnessey, Jocelyn Whent, and Tyler McDonald.

In their second game, they faced the Guelph Gryphons. In the first half, the women came out ready and finished leading 5-3. With hat tricks from Jocelyn Whent and Grace Shaughnessy, the women continued to show off their skill and end the game with a final score of 12-7.

 

Women’s Soccer

The Women’s Soccer team played their final two games of the season, starting with their final home game against the Carleton Ravens. The Women played a strong game the entire time and were put on the board by goal in the first half by Mariah Shaw, assisted by Darienne Patkau. The women played exceptional defense in the second half, with the goalkeeper Imogen Bellinger saving all eight shots on net that came her way.

In their second game of the weekend, they visited Toronto to face the TMU bold. The game was a defensive battle from start to finish, with both goaltenders not allowing a single goal and the game ending in a 0-0 tie. Imogen Bellinger saved all six shots on net throughout the game, making her record on the weekend 14 saves and no goals in 180 minutes of play.

 

Men’s Soccer

The Men’s soccer team also played their final two games of the season this weekend, starting with their final home game against the Carleton Raven’s. The Excalibur battled, and entered the second half only down by a goal. In the second half, the men responded right away, with Leo Frans scoring his seventh of the season, and tying the game at 1. The Excalibur continued to fight and were very close to scoring several times, but unfortunately lost to a last-minute Ravens goal. The final score was 2-1 Carleton.

Their second game, and last of the season, was against the TMU Bold. The Men played excellent in the first half, not allowing any goals and scoring one in the last 10 minutes. Andrew Hamilton had the Excalibur up 1-0 after the first half, but it was not enough to secure the lead as the Bold scored 5 goals in the second half, leading to a 5-1 victory for TMU.
