The Trent Excalibur men’s and women’s curling teams competed in the OUA Championships this weekend, hosted by the University of Guelph.

Our Excalibur women’s team went 3-1 in pool play, finishing 3rd overall. The team performed with true Excalibur excellence, starting the weekend off with an 8-5 win over Western. The team went on to defeat last year’s OUA Champions, McMaster, 6-3 then Algoma 9-2. In their final game of pool play the team fell to Laurier 5-2.

Heading to the quarterfinals for the third consecutive year, Trent was set to face McMaster. The game was tied 3-3 after 7 ends, with McMaster having hammer in the eighth end.  It came down to the last rock in the last end for the win, unfortunately, Trent ticked a guard to set up a hit for two and the win for McMaster.

The men’s team finished the weekend with a 1-3 record – defeating Western 7-4 in the qualifiers. Though the team didn’t see the result they wanted in the end they didn’t walk away completely empty-handed as skip Chris Inglis was named OUA 1st Team All-Star.

“It was a great learning experience for the young guys on our roster and the veteran players led with pride, passion and skill,” said head coach Brad Robinson.
