Athletes of the Week 10

Hayes, Earle named Excalibur Athletes of the Week (February 10-13) in return to OUA action

The Trent Excalibur women's and men's volleyball teams returned to the court last weekend for the first time in 2022, ready to get back in action.

Excalibur co-captain Heidi Hayes led the way for the women's team, taking charge throughout the matchups. Her leadership presence on and off the court helped lead the team to earn their third win of the OUA season.

"Heidi was a force to be reckoned with over the weekend," said assistant coach Rebecca Van Staalduinen. "Tracking down every ball to set up her attackers and serving absolute bomb aces. She was the epitome of true leadership, helping to calm the team in tense moments that eventually led to a 3-1 win in her last home match of her career."

On the men's side, Ethan Earle's abilities stood out over the weekend against the Queen's Gaels and RMC Paladins. Although the team did not earn a win, Earle was a bright spot on the men's team as the team will look to bounce back next week.

"Ethan was able to play consistently throughout the two matches," said head coach Colin Walker. "He helped the team offensively as well as at the backend with some sound blocking fundamentals."

The Excalibur volleyball teams will head out on the road next weekend, as they visit the York Lions on Friday, before closing out their weekend on Sunday versus the Queen's Gaels in Kingston.
